I was taught by Desmond Clover for over three years and set up my own workshop in 1994.
My pots are meant to be used every day. They are a conscious effort to counteract mass produced industrial ware.
I aim for a combination of elegance and usefulness influenced by oriental ware and choose decorations that suit the individual shape and style.
I have used stoneware until recently, but have experimented with porcelain and am now working with earthenware clay.
All pots are thrown on the wheel and fired in an electric kiln. I have developed a range of glazes for stoneware and use slips to decorate earthenware. I often use fluting and facetting and double-dipping to create special glaze-effects, also scraffito coloured with slips for more precise decorations, often based on Art Nouveau.
My work was featured in the Japanese lifestyle magazine “Mrs”, edition November 2005, No. 616.
I have sold my work during Open Studios, at Potfest in Penrith and in exhibitions organized by the Anglian Potters. There is also work for sale in Primavera Gallery in Cambridge.
My cat is the final quality control. Pots that are rejected end up on the workshop floor with a gentle but decisive swish of the paw.
